PARTY TIME
04.07.05 (8:50 pm) [edit]
Saturday Night:

So saturday night we gambled all night. I learned how to play Texas Hold'em and five card draw (although I already knew the latter slightly). I cleaned up. I was actually losing but we put them ALL in and I won with a pair of nines. Then we went out to a club. It was really exclusive and had a dress code I was glad they let me in! We got kicked out though around 3 cus one of the ppl we went with fell asleep adn they thought he was high... I dunno if I really want to go back they were a bit to high class for me! Then I went home to bed.
Sunday:
Finished up my essay for tuesday and printed it out. Nothing really eventful happened until desperate housewives came on. It was a fairly goodone then I got a little buzzed off champange.
Monday:
Again nothing happened I started work on my extra credit essay and that's all I can remember.
Tuesday:
I had a job interview at 9:30 in the morning! I think that it went well. I should know by Friday whether I got one of 2 of the jobs I applied for or not. The other is grant pending so if I got it I wouldn't be notified until later. I dunno waht I am rooting for. I'd really LOVE a job and to know THIS early but I dunno if I want THAT job agian. I'd really like the research position or another job all together so we shall see! Then the doctors office phoned me and told me they got my results but it was the wrong doctors office and they didn't know how to fax them so I had to go pick them up although I had class. So I went to class and wrote an online history exam and then I came home and watched a movie with my room mate and one of her friends.

Wednesday:
I had to to downtown adn run ALOT of errands including: Sorting letters, dropping off money, picking up money, buying shampoo, picking up my tax forms and picking up my test results. Then I phoned the health clinic and asked if I should bring in my results and they told me I really shouldn't have them. Then I phoned a record store about a concert I wanted to go to and found out it was sold out which SUCKS! Then I did my german and we had a house meeting with our two new housemates for next year... and then I went to a lecture and came home. Then I talked on the net 'till two and fell asleep!
Thursday:
Woke up and felt REALLY drained. WEnt back to bed. Went to class. Picked up take hom exam. Went to sort letters again. Came home and worked on take hom exams. Watched some CSI. Waited for one of my friends to come over. She came over and now she is sleeping over. We watched the raccoons and listened to The Weekend!

Alright well that is were we are at now!

What is going on with me? I just basically finished something today that isn't due until next tuesday! I think I am broken! I just have to add some sources and 500 wrds should take me about an hour I'll save it for tomorrow... holy cow... then I'll start on other work!
So today my room mate is having her party. I cleaned the kitchen adn found a wierd mold or possible cleaner in the sink. It was nasty I had to rewash everything and clean up the tray cus I didn't know what it was. I hope we do not all die. Later tonight my room mate and I wanna go out and party but we have no wehre to go... I don't want to go just the two of us that's kind lame!
Anyway TTYL!

The Past Couple of Days
04.01.05 (7:25 pm) [edit]
So yeah,

I went to the councellor and they gave me a book on how to be more agressive and how to talk to myself more... very odd but who knows what works. I will read them later (or never) as I have too much work to do. Seems like my load keeps increasing. Total workload as I have it now:
Monday: German 12 - 9 is due nad in my work book 12 - 5 - 12 - 8.... they are crazy hardcore things I won't get done! Tuesday: 3000 word paper total word count 93 :S I'm going to get up early tomorrow and work on it! I have my research adn that is over half hte battle I think! Wednesday: HIstoyr online exam multiple choice though Next Tuesday(12th): take home exam (no idea the criterea yet) Also about 6 - 8 page essay (so 2000 - 2500?) on Chekhov Vs Pirandello. Next Thursday(14th): take hom exam (again have no idea surprises suck!) and a redone version of my last essay I got a 65 on... WHY DID IT SUCK SO MUCH ASS!
OK so anyway then later that day I had the WORST MIGRANE EVER! Ok it totally wasn't but I was not having fun. So I tried to get rid of it but couldn't I layed down but ppl kept phoning and so I decided to do my laundry and eventually it began to dwinder (dwindle I just realized dwinder isn't a word but I thought it was funny so I am leaving it).
Then I went back to the library and took out like 9 or so books YAY and finished my essay TWO DAYS EARLY :o
Then Thursday I basically "e-mailed in sick" from school. I was supposed to do my german presintaiton but the migrane was backa nd I was up all night sick! Then later I went to class cus I basically had to and I was feeling better until I got to lunch... first mistake I had chilie and a milkshake! No matter how better I felt that is NOT GOOD for a bad stoamch! Basically Krsiten and I headed out to the LCBO trying to get some boose for a friends party and on the way my stomach began to make some not so good noises nad feel kinda not so good either! I made it home in tiem though wohoo!
So yeah the LCBO story. Basically we were told to pick up champaigne (which I fortunately knew from german class can't be called champagne anymore unless it's from france so we actually wetnt for "Sparkling wine"). We didn't know what kind or whatever our room mate just said a whhite bottle with gold writing and a gold top. So we go and ask this lady for directions (I was forced to do it) and basically it sounded like I was buying alcohol for a minor! I was so embaressed! I SWEAR my room mate is like 22 the one I was buying it for! But Iw as like "I am buying some alcohol for a friend and she said to get the cheap gold stuff etc... " not good! Anyway we ended up getting a kind that is Italian and it says "Baby" as the second word but Krsiten and I don't know wha the first word means :?
ok then I worked on my essay a bit more editing it etc.. and I started my other one due tuesday hence the 93 words...
Then today friday I gave my oral presintation finally. No clue how well it went I can never telll and we didn't get marks yet. Then after class I ran to my other class and handed in our essay. It was penpal day and I was supposed to be there by 12 or 12:15 at the lastest. Class ended at 11:50 and I needed to get home before making it to penpal day. So I waited for the bus and it never came until 12:10. I ran home grabbed two cookies popped some pills and picked up supplies. Then I went out and waited for a bus I was at the stop at like 12:17 and I waited until 12:35 for a bus! I didn't make it to penpal day until 12:45! I made it JUST before the kids came in! That day was fun it was the last one and we cleaned up and stuff after then I came home and a shower we ordered pizza annd then went to the movies.
We went to see Ice Princess... it was actually a decent movie some kinda odd lines in it but it was kewl... apparently spread eagle is a skating move who knew?
Ummmmmmmm I can't really think of anyting else...
one of our room mates is having a party tomorrow (The one we needed the champagne for) and that will be busy plus I have ALL that work to do! I Don't think I've ever worked THIS HARD on school in my life but I NEED to get a 75 average to make myself happy!

OH MAN
03.29.05 (10:19 pm) [edit]
OK today I am so busy!

First of all t is 2:30 am and I can't sleep. I had a really bad migrane when I came home from school at 7 so I ate then attempted to feel better but I thought I was going to hurl so I took some drugs and closed my eyes... well I slept from basically 9 - 10:30 and now I am NOT TIRED AT ALL! Man I am so pissed...

Tomorrow I HAVE to get up early, do my laundry, make something to eat (left over chicken nuggets maybe?), go to councelling, make a library trip and pick up like 20 gagillion books, make a shoppers drugmart trip, pick up my tax form, buy other random things on my list and then head home and try to finish my entire essay... then if I have time practice my german presintaiton which was PUT OFF AGAIN and then start my next essay due next Tuesday!

I can't wait and I will let you know how my day went!

Dog Attack
03.29.05 (4:17 pm) [edit]
Normally I try not to post two blogs in one day and I save the info for the next day but this was too good to keep locked up!

So today I was attacked by wishbone... not THE wishbone but one of his kind. It was definately not fun!
I was talking to my housemate about busses then when she left I turnd to walk back to my townhouse. In order to get to it you have to cross a road. I heard this wierd noise coming from beside me and thiking it might be a person on a bike I stopped to look. Coming at me was a Jack Russel. I am usually weary of dogs as there is usually a large doberman that is unleashed at this spot however this dog I have never seen before. When I looked it groweled.
I slowed right down and was taking mini steps and it nipped at my pant leg so I stopped. Then it circled me twice running fast and barking. When it was far side from me and where I was gonig I started to walk again slowly not looking at it. Once I got acros the yellow line of the road it stopped... funny how dogs are like that eh?
Before when the doberman has been out I've seen it back and threaten ppl who cross the road but if you stay on the side my house is on it just barks.
Anyway that was my ordeal... not so bad but it shook me! At least I have faith in the "Stay still" system my mom and animal control have always taught me!
Now should I phone someone or not that is the question!?

Easter
03.29.05 (6:47 am) [edit]
SO I went home last thursday to visit my family for a bit. I took a bus home and my room mate and I saw a guy get hit by a van. Then this freaky homeless man came up to us in a Lady's fur jacket so we ran inside. I got home and my mom and sister were out so I spent a few hours reaquainting myself with the computer. I ran all sorts of spyware and virus scans and a defrag and I think personally it worked well while I was there.
Friday I did NOTHING! Well we went to a movie later at night called D.E.B.S. It was not the best movie I've ever seen but DEFINATELY not the worse! Dude Where's my Car still holds that position. I payed two dollars to go see it and I still wanted ALL my money back. Anyway D.E.B.S is kinda a spoof on Charlie's Angels and had lots of lesbians so if you like that you should go see it. Plus it had a wicked soundtrack including songs by The Weekend, The Donnas and Wheatus (They sang teenage dirtbag).
Sat. We picked up Al and bought a new fish. The new fish's name is Phantom. He is a pretty groovy fish. Then we went to Burlington for Mini Golf. I really didn't feel well so we stalled by going to a few more places. Finally we went to Ikea and I had their sweedish meatball dinner which I LOVE! Then we played mini golf. It was fun but I came in third out of four.
Sunday I went to my Aunt's for Easter dinner. It was nice. We had chinese food. Two of my aunts were there two of my cousins my dad, his gf, my sister and my uncle... oh and my cousins cat! IT' is a Rex (the kind with no hair). I got lots and lots of choclate and a pretty necklace from my mommy. Then later that night my mom sister and I went out for dinner at a local inn. I had Irish STew (Lamb in stew broth) and my mom had lamb chops and sister had ceaser salad. I have NEVER been so full in my life and I gained like 5 lbs over the weekend!
Monday I came back to school. THen I went shopping with my mom. We really didn't get monday off but I only had one class from 11 - 12 so I was like screw it I'm not going!
so.... today I am just about to head off for school.... I have to do my german presintation today FINALLY and then when I get home I have lots of work to do. My boss from my summer job last yer just phoned me and schedualed a phone interview. I hate interviews but I will makethe best of it and hopefully I get hired. I don't care were I work aslong as I get money for school!
From now on I have LOTS Of work to do! There are two weeks left of school but in that time I have to finish basically four essays and an oral presintation (if it get's canceled or moved again I swear I'll scream!).
WEll that's all for now more to come (when/if I have time).

Long Time
03.23.05 (8:02 am) [edit]
Ok so it's been over a week since I've written too you, but I have good reason. I was SO BUSY last week I barely had a second to myself and then I forced Al to come up on the weekend to make me feel better.
WEd I had a special german appt. with my teacher because I was going to miss Thurs/Fri classes. It only took about a half hour but it was useful. Then I did my laundry and homework for the rest of the day.
THursday Jenna walked me to the doctor for my appointment. I hung out with her for a bit after going to McDonalds, Shoppers Drugmart and the LIbrary then I had to go to school to have another session wiht my history teacher. Then after that the history dipartment had an information session about picking courses so I had to go to it.
Friday I went to my appointment alone. IT was not that bad then I waited for Al to come. He came and we attempted to watch a movie but I felt really sick so we went to bed.
Saturday nothing much happened during the day. We finished the movie then at night we went to a sports bar. I had a strawberry daquirie. Those things are GOOD! Then Al and I went home because he doesn't have any ID adn the rest of the house went out clubbing.
Sunday Al and I went to the zoo. We walked there and then walked around. IT was not a very nice zoo but it was still a fun afternoon and VERY warm. Al and I took a few nice pictures. Also I forgot to mention we found out his bus bakc home was cancled that day so he got to stay an extra night.
Monday I took al to the bus terminal then went back to school to see if I got a bursary. Mine had been returned to them because I spelt the address wrong. I went and got one, a bigger one than I was expecting and I am thrilled!
Tuesday: I woke up at 2:30 and stayed up for awhile to work on my presintation. It was due at 4 that day. I felt horrible but I still did it anyway. Then I found out we also had german exercises to do. Then I got to class and the teacher was away so I didn't even have to do it! I don't think he understands the mental anguish I go through before I present! Anymore of this and you'll have to take my too the hospital for an ulcer!
Wed... I have yet ANOTHER private appt. with my teacher. He is private appt. happy! This one is supposed to show him that we know our vokab. I don't think anyone in the class has done well so far and I can only see a few people doing well. I am so nervous! I'll let you know how it goes later...
So future plans... Well I'm going home for easter soon. I am starting to get really stressed so it'll be nice. OH I also picked out all of my courses! I will write about them later.
Anyway I have to go study my vokab book!

Hey Guys
03.14.05 (12:19 pm) [edit]
So from going to church with my friends I have decided that neither of us are crazy we just value very different things.
I have been going to a church thing wiht my friend almsot once a week sometimes twice a week just to listen to speakers etc... I tried to listen to everything with a fairly open mind because otherwise there really wouldn't be much point in me coming and I came to a conclusion that they just value different things alot and look at life alot different from me.
I remember one speaker came in and he said that without god there was no meaning in life. I mean you could get married, have kids, get a job, help people but that your life had no meaning. Well I'm sorry but I guess I wouldn't like my life to have meaning then becasue to me those things he mentioned have all the meaning in the world.
He also said we were all just wondering aimlessly and that there was really no reason to be good unless you were going to heaven. In my opinion taht statement alone is disgusting. Maybe you can be nice just to make the world a better place. I mean yes there are psychologist that believe the only reason people are nice is for themselves but even that is acting without god. I know alot of people who don't believe in any afterlife that are extremely nice and caring people and would go out of their way to help others. Telling people that they are only nice because they want to go to heaven I think I would even take offense to.
Last night I also listened to quite a few members pray for their parents because their parents were athiests because their parents weren't baptised. I'm sorry but aslong as your parents support you you really shouldn't complain. IF htey tell you becuase you believe in god you are a horrible child I can understand but if they support goign to church with you and EVEN GO sometimes with you then shut up. You have no righ to complain.
I liked the one man that came and said that christianity was destroying the environment because they see earth as such an unimportant place because we will all leave here one day. He made some very valid points. Not all christians ruin the environment but I liked how he pointed out this mindset that they have. IT's another VERY different mindset from me who believes everything I have to offer is here on this earth.
They also talk bout people who believe in god have no comfort... This is true it's hard when someone dies to think I can never see them again as there is no heaven for me. But I take comfort in memories. For me to tell myself I'm going to see them again in heaven would be to lie to myself so why bother.
Another point that a speaker brought up was that there is no such thing as opinion or values. A teacher told him that once in class and he went up to her after class and told her she was wrong because jesus christ gave us values and an opinion. The woman laughed at him and refused to talk anymore about it. Then he went on about how her point was utterly sick because in other countries (Or even in this one I'd like to point out) women are beaten or put down on and how could this be right because JESUS CHRIST says it's not. Well maybe in my values I think it's wrong and even in the christian values he seems to think it's wrong (even though I had an english teacher who read us parts in the bible that said you could beat your wife). Well I'm sorry but the WHOLE WORLD isn't christian and who is to say what the right vvalues are or not. I'm goign to have to agree with his teahcer on this one.
So I really think thsoe are the main differences. They probably think I am insane for not being able to let jesus into my heart but I think they are insane for letting him in there. But hey then again I could be wrong. Maybe history doesn't matter. Maybe great leaders had no MEANING and I guess definately then hitler has NO MEANING because this is just earth.
It's not just religion though that I find people have different opinions then me. I mean most of the time I sit in this room of mine without TV or movies doing my homework but everyonce and awhile I am reminded that not everyone has the same priorities as me. For instance two nights ago an older lady friend of my room mate was driving us home from a play we saw. She asked if the actors were paid to which we replied no that they were just students from our university. Then she started to get in a fit because she'd paid 12 dollars to go see the show. She's like "Well then were does the money go your univesrity? THAT IS DISGUSTING! They should give it to a charity!"... well fisrt of all I tried to explain to her that there were production costs that they needed to take care of and I really didn't know if the rest of the money went to my university or not but I lost alot of respect for this lady. I'm sorry but to me even if the rest of hte money DID go to our univesrity or any school in TODAYS culture they ALL ARE charities!
Maybe it's because I was brought up in a household full of teachers or maybe it's because my "values" are all out of wack but even in the dark ages when ot was considered to be the worst time to live they focused on education. Now it was run by the churches and definately not everyone could read or have access to books but they tried to educate the people the best they could. Now the goverment shows so little interest in edcation. Now I do realize we need business in the way our world runs today (however I am a strong isolationist) so I realize we can't give it all to our schools but there is definately more to go around than they are investing. We learned last year in politics that canada was one of the FIRST COUNTRIES to sign a contract with the UN to promise free post secondary education within 10 years of when the contract was signed and it was FAR MORE than 10 years since htat contract had been signed and our teacher had a copy and passed it around and sure enough it stated that. Other countries do it. Quebec has free college and university is only 2000 for students. Now the states is FAR FAR worse but we can do far far better!
So maybe my values are all out of wack but htey are what I think and an opinion or value really can't be wrong now can it? And I have learned something: Going to church for a non believer is like a weekend of bad sex... it leaves you very disapointed!

90s Grunge Stars: Where Are they Now?
03.13.05 (9:03 pm) [edit]
Here is a copy of the complete article I wrote for Al's site ENJOY!
Mark Lanegan
You may not have been a grunge fan, but I guarantee you have heard of a least a few of these names: Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and The Screaming Trees. These are the "power five" of grunge in my opinion. Now I know you probably know all about their careers but whatever happened to them after the mid 90s? Most mark Kurt Cobain of Nirvana’s death as the death of all grunge but was it? It definitely wasn’t the death of big grunge Icon’s. My CD collection still boasts numerous solo Albums and I am going to tell you about it! Now I don’t claim to be an expert or know all about the icons of grunge but here is what I do know!
Chris Cornell
Soundgarden: Now mainly I’m going to focus on Chris Cornell because you know all the others don’t even matter. God he had one hell of a voice. After leaving Soundgarden he attempted a solo career with one CD in 1999 entitled Euphoric Morning. I own the CD and it’s actually quite good if you are in a lazy mood. DEFINITELY not like Soundgarden. After this he formed a second band, Audioslave, with the remaining victims of Zach de la Rocha’s former band Rage Against the Machine. Their first album was released in November of 2002. Has anyone else noticed Cornell’s weird obsession with compound words? (PS If you like Chris Cornell you should check out Dave Navarro’s solo CD).

Nirvana: This band although I hate to admit it was probably the most famous and most influential members of the grunge era. They definitely aren’t my favourite but they deserve props. After Kurt Cobain’s death there were basically two surviving members of Nirvana. Krist Novoselic and David Grohl. Novoselic’s music career after Nirvana probably hasn’t been as successful as he’d hoped. I remember hearing last year on the radio that he had formed a band called Eyes Adrift. I immediately went home and downloaded their music and let me tell you they definitely weren’t on the forefront of music. Most of the tracks were scratchy but they lacked a certain something. Novoselic however has blossomed in other areas. I saw him on a documentary about how certain combinations of sound make up "the perfect song" (it’s a new scientific method they are trying to create only musical hits). He also has a few political ties. David Grohl on the other hand has enjoyed EMENSE musical success and is probably more recognizable as a name than he ever was with Nirvana. After the death of Kurt he immediately formed a band called Foo Fighters in 1995. Grohl has also been seen playing drums for other bands such as Queens of the Stone Age.
Pearl Jam
Pearl Jam: Well there really isn’t much you need to mention about this band. Yes they are still around and they are still fantastic. I’d say around the mid 90s they suffered a decline in popularity but many true fans did not lose interest. Then in 1999 they broke out with a cover of Last Kiss. This brought the band back to enjoying their former popularity and I’d say that on the radio they often play many old songs. Certainly their popularity and "still together" status hasn’t stopped numerous members of the band from dipping into other areas in music such as Mike McCready playing guitar for the band Mad Season (Layne Staley of Alice In Chains was Vocals). Why this band survived all the way into the 21st century I don’t know but Pearl Jams still alive, oh and are they supposed to be, is that the question and if so who answers?
Alice In Chains
Alice in Chains: So what is up with this band? Well I admit I really don’t know much of anything about them. I know however that they do no longer exist. In April of 2002 Staley the lead singer died of a cocaine and heroine overdose. Jerry Cantrell did produce his own solo album in 1998 and he released two more in 2002 at least one after the death of Staley however nothing new has been seen from him lately.
Screaming Trees
Screaming Trees: Well I’m just going to focus on one musician from this band Mark Lanegan who was credited to writing most of the music and who contributed lead vocals. The last album put out by Screaming Trees was Sweet Oblivian in 1996, but Lanegan had dabbled in a solo career track before this. Strained relationships made it impossible for Screaming Trees to continue and Lanegan moved forward with his solo career. To this day he has released 7 solo CDs his most recent one being Bubblegum release in 2004 (I own it and trust me it is amazing as is all of Screaming Trees and Lanegan’s work). This album boasted a great number of amazing song writers and talented musicians. Lanegan has also worked with NUMEROUS other bands. In 1990 Lanegan and the drummer for Screaming Trees were supposed to do a blues album with Nirvana. This did not work out but Nirvana used the track "Where did you sleep last night" on MTV. Lanegan did quite extensively work with Queens of the Stone Age and even went on tour with them for a short while. He sang lead vocals on a few tracks for their Songs for The Deaf album. Here is just a brief list of names that he has either done work on their albums of they have done work on his: Nirvana (excluding Grohl), Queens of The Stone Age, Melissa Auf Der Maur and Mad Season.
Soundgarden
So what can we make up this? Well I think grunge is still alive today in spirit. Grunge artists are still infiltrating our eardrums on a daily basis. Turn on any radio station and you will surely hear if not an old song then something new of theirs or someone they’ve helped or inspired. Should we pay attention to these relics of the 90s? Well I think it’s worth our time to at least give it a shot and I’d like to take this second to pimp all of these bands. Maybe grunge isn’t your thing or maybe you’ve only heard of some but I’d like you to check out ALL of these artists and who knows maybe you’ll find something that blows your mind.

03.13.05 (8:11 am) [edit]
Hey Guyes,
Guess it's been awhile since I've written to you. Well I finished my essay on time. I really have no clue if it's any good or not but we shall see in a couple of weeks. Now for tomorrow I have to finish a five minute german presintation on a city no one has heard of and I also have to make passive sentances. Then for Tuesday I have to revise an essay I got a bad mark on. It's the last chance that I have to do so. But then I am basically scott free until the 31st when I have another redone one to hand in. Then the next week of April 6th I have MY LAST essay due about 4000 words... (It'll KILL ME) and then school is done the following Friday. I have so many exams though, both take home, in class and normal ones.
Thursday I made a ham for my room mate and myself. I cooked ham and then boiled cauliflower. I will put up pictures they were both so delicious! Then after I baked cookies... wow aren't I hardcore?
Then friday I wrote an article for Al's website (the link is at the side). I will post the article on here later. It is about 90s grunge icons and where htey are now.
I applied like a few weeks ago for all my summer jobs. I applied to a toursti booth, library and a museum. I really hope I get one of those jobs. Truth be told I want the tourist booth. I just have this strange feeling I'm not going to be hired anywhere...
So yeah I can't really think of anything else to talk about so I guess this is it. HOpe you guys are all having a ncie wind down to the summer too!

Ok so yeah, I went to my first counceling appointment today. It was fun. I talked with the lady along time and she basically told me everything I already knew I just need to tell ppl things but I don't want to so why would I?
Nextly a stray Deer was at our house so my room mates phoned Animal control but they said they couldn't deal with it so they phoned wildlife canada. Both groups came AC to stabalize until WC came. Later we saw the deer laying on the ground and we didn't know why. We hoped they tranquilized it. Later my one room mate went home and saw the deer in the back of a pick up all hackced up and it had a dead baby inside it too. Apparently it had been hit by a car... we don't know why the mutilation. Everyone is upset about it!
So yeah that was my day. I'm almsot done my essay. Just have to write on the feminist part of 1660 restoration drama under Aphra Behn.... such a BAD topic!

2 New Movies
03.08.05 (4:01 pm) [edit]
Ok so since I wrote about all thsoe kewl movies I discovered two more, but first my day.
I went to class and talked to my teacher about how I don't participate in class. I go to this seminar all the time but I am faily shy. Most teachers give you 80% f you show up and 80 - 100 if you actually participate but this teacher feels teh need to actually mark us on how much we talk. Needless to say I got about 50 - 60 precent bringing my mark from 80 to 74. I asked her if there was anyway I could improve it to which she replied I could write a 5 page essay and tack it onto the back of my essay. Now this would be fine but she continued to pick on me for the rest of the 3 hour class trying to get me to answer EVERY question. She'd say "Does anyone know what expressed gender roles are.. . OH DO YOU HAVE AN IDEA FORMING IN YOUR HEAD YET?!" and look directly at me. She did this several times. I dunno about you but I never want to go to that class again.... I wanted to jump off the bridge but I figured it probably wouldn't be far enough for me to die and it would probably be pretty cold...
The movies
The Ballad of Bettie Page Apparenlty Gretchen Mol is supposed to be quite excellent and there are some screen shots up were she looks remarkably like Bettie. It's basically about Bettie Page's life and some trouble she got in with the police.
Ballad of Bettie Page, The
The Black Dahlia This movie is about the murder of Elizabeth Short. It is not a pretty murder but an interesting story of an "upcoming" young starlot. I just thought of how ironic that was what the hec is a pretty murder! Ok let's put it this way as far as murders go it's a pretty grizzly one.

03.01.05 (7:54 pm) [edit]
I really haven't made any blogs in awhile about kewl little facts of tidbits so here it goes! I'm goign to talk about movies tonight.
First about my day: I went to bed at 6 am last night (I didn't try to I treid to go to bed at around 12:30- 1 but I couldn't sleep so I drew a pic and listened to CDs and stuff.) But yeah then I got up at 9:30. Then I went to teh lbirary and took otu some books on restoration comedy and the women in it. Then I went to class from 12 - 3... went to the caf to eat some pizza. Then I talked to my room mates and some other good friends. Then I went to class from 4 - 5 then wrote an exam 5 -6 then talked to deovn and his friend Trevor... Then I came home... burnt two of my fingers (I blame it on the lack of sleep. I literally picked up a pan fresh out of a 400F oven!) and then I met Jody the girl who is supposed to move in next year. SHe was honestly really nice... I managed to bring up Orgies and Boob jobs YAY!
So that's about it.... Onto the movies! Here is a list of links to REALLY AWSOME movies you shoudl all check out when they come out. 2005 seems like a GREAT year!
*** Warning I have not actually seen any of these movies and some don't even have trailers up so it's totally based on my wacked out opinion of who's in it and who directs it and how kewl the idea is!***
Batman Begins... I was really excited about this movie at first until I saw the preview...... I really don't know what to think. It should be good with this cast and I"m sure it is good to some ppl but it doesn't look like my style or how I love batman aka not gothic enough!
BATMAN BEGINS
Bettie Paige: Dark Angel... Kind of "indie" but it looks really good! It stars Page Richards who when looking at the trailer actually looks ALOT like Bettie!
Bettie Paige: Dark Angel
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... Ok... I loved this movie from the FIRST second I heard of it in the summer in my car near a gouda cheese store in PEI and when I saw the trailer I fell in love with it more! Perfect blend of beauty and goth... johnny not so hot but really WHO CARES HE"S FU**ING WILLIE WONKA! Apparenlty though ther eis no singing... I was looking forward to dep inteh boat that son g rocks... they should play mansons version!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Living Neon Dreams... Not sure what type of movie this will be but I'm pretty sure I'll love it. I mean it doesn't have any trailer up but it's a remake of Alice in Wonderland with ALAN CUMMING (nightcrawler) as King of Hearts and Manson as Queen of Hearts you can just TELL it's going to be an awsome movie! DEFINATELY DEFINATELY keep your eye out for this gem! PLEASE don't disapoint!
Living Neon Dreams
POTC or Pirates of the Carribean... Ok so I know it's no major political statement or beautiful piece of art but Johnny Depp is hot in this and I enjoyed the last one alot! Just wanted you to be aware it's on the verge of coming out!
POTC
Starwars Episode III... So I watched the trailers and yes Vicky it looks like agian in 2005 YODA WILL KICK SOME ASS! Unlike Batman, this trailer seems to just ROCK! However if you are a hardcore OLD school starwars fan (and I know you are outthere) you will hate this along with Episodes 1 through 2.... ok maybe through isn't the right word I should have used a "-".... ... actually if you look at the poster pic it looks alot like batman's cap!
STARWARS III
The Libertine... THIS is definately a foreign film... it had one showing in Canada that is already finished and as far as I know you can't even see it in the states... only the UK! I don't even know where you could purchase it as there is no official website but basicaly Johnny Depp plays the Earl of Rochestor a man who died at 30 of syphillus... He was also a poet during the restoration period (1660s +). Apparently there was a gay kiss in this movie but it was cut out :(
The Libertine
The Corpse Bride... Which I've already mentioned simply looks SUPERB! It's animation by Burton and looks ALOT like Nightmare Before Xmas but different enough to be good! Depp's voice is in it and it just looks so fantastic! There is a trailer up too!
Corpse Bride
The Rum Diary... Don't really know about this... but it was written and based on the life of the guy who Fear and Laothing was... WHICH WAS AN AWSOME MOVIE so I suggest seeing it! Also Depp is in this. Hopefully the movie will still be a go as Hunter the writer and man it was based on commited suicide just last week... I'm not sure how this will effect the film but being hte nerd I am I'm going to find out. Anyway check it out!
The Rum Diary
OK so wow I did a big Johnny Depp blow out there. Not my fault the hot man is also in movies I genuinely like even more than his hot face! Trust me I use it as a criteria! If the movie can get me to forget I am looking at HOT SMOULDERING INTELLECTUAL Johnny Depp than it's a good movie... which the first POTC really didn't... but I've always loved pirates!
Anyway I really have to get to bed damn early nights nad late mornings!

History 205 Second Essay: Medieval Heresy and the Changing Approaches to it
Heresy during medieval times has been portrayed in many ways in movies, books and other popular media forms. Most people probably do not know what exactly this term means or what it deals with. When most people think of heresy they think of inquisitions, specifically the Spanish Inquisition and torture. This has not always been the case; there are many different events and techniques on dealing with heretics that make up what heresy was during the medieval era. Before talking about heresy or the measures taken to control it by the church, one must first understand the definition of heresy. Some would define it as an unorthodox opinion of any matter, including religion, or as a complete rejection of the church by a non-believer in god. The definition of heresy used for this paper is a direct rejection of religious dogma by a professed Christian. The act of punishing heretics however changes from one century to another. Specifically focusing on just the period between 1200 and 1300 in its self there is a wide variety of examples of how heretics have been dealt with. This is the period that will be focused on for the paper. Specific factors in the way heresy was dealt with throughout the 13th century vary but all have helped shape the way heresy was dealt with. One factor is the Fourth Lateran Council. This council came together and discussed changes to the punishment of heretics. After the Lateran Council came Pope Gregory IX. Many legislations that pope Gregory IX made were increasingly violent as compared to the previous popes and definitely increased in severity. Another factor is the papal allowance of torture in 1252 and other decrees that Pope Innocent IV legislated. The final factor this paper will discuss is the crusades and the way it brought heretics to justice; specifically discussing the Albigensian crusades and its affects. The punishment of heretics drastically changed during the 13th century from the often un-violent ways of dealing with heretics in the pre to early 13th century, to the painful and cruel methods of torture in the mid to later half of the 13th century.
The Fourth Lateran Council probably had the greatest impact on heresy during the 13th century. The reigning pope at the time, Innocent III, declared a meeting of all religious cannons at his palace in Rome. The cannons were made up of bishops, priests and representatives of all the princes of Europe. The use of this council was a regular way of deciding upon Christian matters during the 12th and 13th centuries. The actual purpose of the council was to create a code for all of Christian society. Laws began to take affect that told ordinary citizens how to be “good Christians” and groups such as Muslims and Jews were heavily discriminated against. There were two crucial things on the agenda of the council that changed life for heretics. One was an exact outline of religious doctrine. This defined exactly what it was to be a heretic. Once the Dogma was outlined it could be properly policed. There were two ways of policing heresy. One was setting up a “police like” force with in the church to catch people in the act of heresy. This was called “denuntiatio”. The second way was called “accusatio”. This form of policing was laid mostly on the shoulders of the civilians and was largely what the church relied on however there was poor motivation because if the civilians could not prove their case correctly against their neighbours then they were doomed to face the defendants’ punishment(s). The second was an outline of punishments that heretics were to receive. This council mostly reiterated punishments from the council at Verona that took place in 1184. The punishment for heretics as decided at the Lateran Council was to receive an imperial ban. This decree was still in the realms of the Carolingian Sendgericht however. The imperial ban included exile, confiscation of property, houses raised to the ground and prohibition of holding public office. The council also made it quite clear that the churches should be obliged to carry out the punishment on all heretics. One difference at the Lateran council that was not seen before is that Pope Innocent III did not call for death but he did not condone it as was seen before at all the other councils. This leads one to believe the church was not suggesting it as a means of punishment for heretics. It will later be addressed that torture was once again condoned during the reign of Innocent IV. The Fourth Lateran Council was a huge influence on heresy and the way heretics were punished. It however did not stop heresy all together and some different groups still thrived.
Pope Gregory IX was even more severe than the Lateran Council toward heretics. In February of 1231 Pope Gregory IX assigned a new constitution called “Excommunicamus”. It provided very systematic legislation on how to deal with heretics at the time. Some of the highlights of this constitution are the surrendering of heretics to secular arm, excommunication of certain groups such as Cathars and Waldensians, suspected heretics who do not come forward are automatically assumed heretics, imprisonment of heretics, no right for heretics to appeal, suspected heretics could have no lawyers, no parents suspected of heresy could see their child, “exhumation” of heretics who have not yet been punished and finally the demolishing of heretics homes. These policies, although put into place, where not immediately followed. Gregory did however see heresy as an important issue to deal with. During Gregory’s reign a great number of deaths occurred in Flanders. Several people were burnt at the stake and the pope did nothing to stop it, although, he did not sanction it either. Gregory IX wrote many epistles yet only a few were devoted to heresy. One of these epistles was written specifically to establish the inquisition. Heresy was not seen as a great enough threat by the papal institution to focus much effort on and the inquisition was not seen on a large scale until pope Innocent IV one reason for this is that they had no way to force a confession from people. Pope Gregory IX followed in Pope Innocent III’s footsteps by following much of already existing law patterns to deal with heresy while not adding many new foreign legislations to canon law. One inquisitor under Gregory was Conrad of Marburg. He was a German inquisitor who was said to take no mercy on even the innocent. Anyone who claimed they would be innocent would be burnt at the stake, their only comfort was knowing that they would be heroes in heaven. He also made people shave their heads. These types of punishments were not widely used against heretics but still existed. Later on Marburg was let go from the inquisition. Marburg was let go from the inquisition because of his murderous zeal that was not commonly seen during the reign of pope Gregory IX, with the rise of pope Innocent IV the kinds of punishments Marburg used would be quite widely accepted.
Another event that shaped heresy and the punishment of heretics was the papal allowance of torture in 1252 by Innocent IV and other bulls that he made. This was quite possibly one of the greatest weapons the church had against the common citizens. They could force a confession out of almost anyone and this seemingly helped their cause. The papal bull that allowed torture was called “Ad extirpanda” and although torture had been seen in both Roman and Barbarian law it was foreign to Canon law. Canon law had recognized flogging for penance but torture as a new form of punishment was an entirely new concept. Definitely if torture was used prior to 1252 it was not for extorting a confession from a person but merely as a form of punishment. The bull decreed that, “… any sort of torment short of mutilation was to be utilized in order to obtain confessions and information.” Even in 1252 the Ad extirpanda only allowed towns in Italy to practice torture. Torture was not allowed to be used anywhere else in Europe until Pope Alexander IV, Innocent IV’s successor. At first torture was a secular task but the church found this difficult to carry out and therefore torture became even more widespread after 1256 when Pope Alexander IV gave the non-secular inquisitors permission to absolve one another. Another problem for the inquisitors was that you could only torture a person once. However they got around this by saying that they were “continuing” a session of torture not repeating it, but in 1291 Philip the Fair tried to intervene and stop torture. Later in 1301 it was greatly inhibited when Pope Clement V made it so only the Bishop of the Diocese could perform the act of torture. Another decree that came from Pope Innocent IV was the rules on what to do once someone was decided to be a heretic. He stated that they would be removed, “… from the statutes of the commune all contrary laws under penalty of deprivation from office, a fine and prosecution for perjury.” After this was carried out a council of 12 men chosen by the local bishop was set off to seize the suspected heretic. The men are then dismissed by the “podestà” (or ruler) and it is then his duty to carry out the means to obtain a confession from the suspected heretic. Pope Innocent IV also made it impossible for the heretics to ever find out who accused them of being a heretic. This was the first pope to do this and therefore stripped away the heretics’ rights even further. Ad extirpanda did more for the church than just allowing torture it basically turned Italy into a police state making it harder for heretics. He also unlike his predecessor, Innocent III, condoned burning at the stake for relapsed heretics. Death at the stake was also a new allowance in 1952 under canon law. The bull also did not only strip heretics of property but it stripped their heirs of rights to their property as well. All of pope Innocent IV’s legislations during his reign led to the expansion of the inquisition and finally it’s operation on a large scale. These new legislations brought in during the middle of the 13th century show the every increasing severity of the punishment towards heretics. Violent punishments were suggested by the pope while pre 13th century they were looked down upon and most importantly pope Innocent IV’s new reforms led to the inquisition in a new and terrifying way.
The Albigensian crusades were another case of increased violence during the 13th century. There were many other crusades along with the Albigensian crusades but this crusade is the most prominent during the 13th century. The crusade in itself was a way to capture and punish heretics. The heretic group that the church was after were the Cathars. They were seen as a Christian group going directly against the church and rejected the dogma widely considered to be the true answer to religion. The first crusade started in 1209 and it was fought by international European forces. It ended in 1255 right after the papal allowance of torture. The Albigensian crusades were an early example of brutality in the 13th century. They were seen as the most successful attempt at abolishing heresy because of their wide scale massacres. The pope at the time gave crusaders that went to the holy land and fight forgiveness of past sins, martyrdom status and indulgences. This helped persuade men to fight for the religious cause. In the crusade first crusade 7000 people were massacred in just one town yet it had the effect of scattering heretics deeper throughout Europe. The pope, Innocent III, was called a failure at home and the people thought stricter measures against he heretics should be taken. The purging of the Cathars from Italy was a slow process with many numbers of people being burnt at the stake in 1233 and 1240. During the raid the pope decided that he would either wipe out or convert all Cathars to Catholicism. The Cathars in the Albigensian crusades put up with a lot more violence than any other heretic group during this time period. They were subjugated to massacres and mass burnings while other heretics received in comparison minor sentences of lost status, property and exile. All of these methods however were seen as a way to destroy and defeat enemies to Catholicism.
From the beginning of the 13th century on, one will see a progression of the methods of dealing with heretics become more violent throughout. In the beginning of the 13th century pope Innocent III held the Fourth Lateran Council. This council helped in shaping the punishment for heretics. Although the punishments mostly reiterated a previous conference it still shows the anti-violent tactics that were used. Next came the legislations from pope Gregory IX. Although his legislation was not widely adopted it still demonstrated the start to an increase in violent acts to punish heretics. Then came Pope Innocent IV. His papal allowance of torture in 1252 and many other decrees made by him were the final tools the church needed in order to carry out large scale inquisitions and violence against people thought to be heretics. The Albigensian crusade against the Cathars, although at the beginning of the 13th century, demonstrated some pretty powerful tactics that the church decided to use and attack heretics with in the 13th century. The crusades lasted until the mid 13th century. Violence in the 13th century grew greatly. From the beginning of the 13th century, were the pope was against torture and ultimately the punishment of death, to the middle and later half of the 13th century were there was a full blown inquisition that tortured and killed thousands daily. These violent acts were not always widely practiced but the acceptance of them especially with in the church and in cannon law grew immensely over the 13th century. When people think of the inquisition and mediaeval heresy they often think of the Spanish inquisition and brutal confessions of prisoners on the rack. The rack was not even a widely used source of torture. They would have more than likely burnt them at the stake or buried them alive. However, there is much more to heresy than torture. Families lost thousands of dollars worth of properties and children lost parents. The search and ultimate purging of heretics was a violence that should definitely not be repeated.
